“At Peace”

COMPOSITION:

Ambiente/ lo-fi music

  • NOTES:
The inspiration behind my composition was ambiente and lo-fi music that creates a peaceful and emotional vibe. I wanted to create a musical piece that makes the listener feel calm and relaxed, rather than bored or sleepy. I wanted the music to feel passionate and determined whil still sounding balanced and peaceful.

Before starting the composition, I listened to different ambiente music videos on YouTube, including music with nature sounds, orchestral and classical music, and pop elements. This helped me decide on what direction I want to go with this composition and what sounds/ideas I want to use. The composition is an ambiente lo-fi piece with a soft but passionate melody, relaxing harmonies, and smooth textures.

The composition has a clear ABABA structure. It begins with an introduction that creates a calm atmosphere and then introduces the main melody. New layers and sounds are added to slowly provoke emotion and keep the listener interested.

The middle section is a bit more expressive but towards the end the piece becomes calmer again, finishing smoothly. I used repeating paterns and small changes to create a flow and balance.

I created the composition using GarageBand on the computer in school. I experimented with different digital sounds and melodies before settling on the ones I have. I made sure to use soft syntheziser and piano sounds to make the music feel calm and emotional, creating the atmosphere I intended. During the process I listened to different ideas, loops, and effects in GarageBand and changed the harmonies, layers, and dynamics until I was happy with the result. I developed this piece step by step by adding and removing sounds until it felt just right.

One challange that U faced was finding the right balance between calm and exciting. I wanted it to sound determined without becoming too hectic, but I also did not want it to sound boring. I overcame this by experimenting with different layers, melodies, and sounds until I found the right balance that worked well. I also added small changes throughout to keep the listener interested.

I am happy with the final result and I enjoyed creating this composition. I think the piece achieves the goal I wanted because it feels peaceful and relaxing while still sounding passionate and emotional.
